Meet The Team
At Destinations Travel and Immunizations Clinic, our team is passionate about keeping travelers healthy and safe. We combine medical expertise with personalized care, ensuring every patient gets the guidance, vaccinations, and support they need for a healthy trip.
Medical Director
Dr. Barry N. Pakes, MD, MPH, PhD, FRCPC, CCFP, DTMH is a Public Health specialist physician who practices regularly in travel medicine, primary care, and emergency medicine. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and a graduate of the Community Medicine specialty training program at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Pakes serves as Program Director for the Public Health & Preventive Medicine Residency Program at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto, and is also the Global Health Lead for Postgraduate Medical Education. His academic work and leadership focus on public health ethics, vaccinology, global health training, and health policy.
He earned his undergraduate degree in Microbiology, Immunology, and Economics at McGill University before completing his Doctor of Medicine (MD) at the University of Toronto. He went on to earn a Master of Public Health (MPH) from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, where he was also a member of the inaugural Harvard/Tufts/MIT Humanitarian Studies Initiative. He later completed his PhD in Public Health Ethics at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Pakes holds tropical medicine certification through the Gorgas Course at the Universidad Cayetano Heredia in Lima, Peru, and from the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH). He also earned the Diploma in Tropical Medicine & Hygiene (DTM&H), deepening his expertise in global and travel health.
Throughout his career, Dr. Pakes has combined clinical medicine, research, and teaching with a commitment to improving global health equity and advancing the next generation of public health leaders.
Travel Health Nurse
Ilona is a registered nurse at Destinations Travel Clinic, where she specializes in travel health. With her extensive expertise in travel medicine, she offers patients thorough consultations, reliable advice, and ensures they are protected with the right vaccinations and medications. Outside the clinic, Ilona enjoys spending time with her family, exploring new destinations, and capturing moments through photography.
